Good day John,
Yes we have been offering a delivery service since we open 13 years ago and we have our regulars who use the service, mostly elders and those without a car these days but want a large quantity of seed.
We also deliver to a few customers that have young kids and don't have as much time to stop by and a those who are too busy enjoying their retirement. We deliver the seed right to the container in shed or basement, many times the customer is not home but we have a routine.
Being the owner of the store I am also the delivery guy which our customers love because we usually chat about the birds and what is happening. The customer likes to show what they have done to attract and help the birds.
On average we make 5 deliveries a week so it is not huge but very appreciated.
Thanks for doing a great job with the blog and all the information, Colin Bartlett.
From: Vickie, Backyard Birds, Decatur, Il. I do delivery..but have held it to my "little old ladies". Many of these customers are alone, can't lift the bag...can't carry it into their garage...or sadly, their children aren't willing to help.
I do not charge a fee...as they live very close to the store or to my home...but you have given me something to think about for the general type customer.
One woman is set up on a 2 week schedule. Every 2 weeks I take her 2...35lb bags of bird seed...she has a check waiting for me for $55.68 and I am on my way.
I enjoy your newsletters...thanks! Vickie
